Cattle Purchasing
Each Highland breeder has specific herd goals and breeding philosophies. I enjoy finding cattle to match the needs of each unique breeding program. If you want world class I can give you options; if you want quality, affordable cattle I can find you those as well. I carefully consider the details of breeding, structure, health and disposition before recommending cattle to my clients. If I wouldn’t own it, you will never see it.
Pedigree Evaluations
Highland pedigrees give invaluable information on the heritable attributes within cattle lineages. I’ve been carefully studying these for over 25 years. When a client submits a pedigree for evaluation, I investigate the cow’s ancestors, then provide detailed information about the quality of the lineage and the genetic traits I would expect that individual to reproduce. Additionally, I can often provide reference photos of your cow’s ancestors.
Judging & Seminars
It has been my honor to judge Highland shows and speak at educational venues across the country in recent years. I have a passion for sharing knowledge with aspiring Highland breeders and show ring competitors. I’ve often spoken to the youth of junior associations and the general members of AHCA about important topics pertaining to Highlands. As a judge I feel a great responsibility to select winners that are the most functional and truest representations of this breed.
Commission Sales
Having developed an extensive network of breeder relationships over the decades, I can promote your registered Highlands to buyers locally or even across the nation. Many buyers are waiting for that next exceptional Highland to come available. Will that animal be from your fold?
Breeding Strategies
Knowing what bull will cross well with which cows is a skill that comes with time but you can get ahead of the game by hiring me to help you select your breeding pairs based on the improvements that are needed in your fold and your current stage of herd development. I can help you form a progressive breeding strategy that is informed by my experience with Highland genetics and keen eye for beautiful and functional cattle.
Showstring Selections & Fitting
Selecting Highlands with promising show futures is something I often help people with. I can guide you in narrowing your cattle down to the very best show candidates. I also fit (groom) Highlands for show in a moderate style that complements breed character while giving a very competitive advantage. I have been blessed to fit 13 of the national grand or reserve champions in the past 20 years at the NWSS.
